Here at Diet Breakthroughs we love to eat….

And while that may sound crazy being that we are a blog promoting weight loss, the reality is you don’t have to give up the foods you love to lose weight.

As a matter of fact, if you deprive yourself of the foods you love you are less likely to stick with your diet.

So with that being said, here are 4 delicious foods that will keep boredom at bay and help you shrink your waistline fast.

Whole Wheat Pasta

That’s right my friend, whole wheat pasta can help you shed those unwanted pounds.

The problem is most people avoid it because they think it’s loaded with calories and will ruin their weight results.

The reality however is pasta is a low glycemic index food. The glycemic index ranks carbohydrates on a scale of 0 to 100.

The rankings are based on how quickly your blood sugar levels rise after you consume the food.  The lower the number, the better.

When a food has a low glycemic index it means it takes longer to digest and will provide you with a steady source of fuel for a few hours.

This means you will eat less and thus lose weight…..

Whole wheat pasta has a glycemic index between 32-37. White pasta on the other hand has a glycemic index in the mid 40’s.

This basically means a healthy whole wheat pasta meal is not off limits for those who are looking to slim down.

Pair it with chicken, vegetables, seafood, or any other healthy option for a delicious dinner that won’t ruin your progress.

Try to stay away from the cream based sauces as they will add in a ton of unwanted calories.

Dark Meat Chicken

I know you were expecting us say chicken breasts but that’s not what we are about here. We said delicious foods. Not boring chicken breasts.

What most people don’t realize is that a piece of dark meat, for example the leg or the thigh, only has 5 more calories than the boring old chicken breast.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Doesn’t the thigh have way more fat than the breast”?

NO! As a matter of fact, the chicken thigh only has 1 more gram of fat than the chicken breast.

As long as you skip the skin you can truthfully enjoy any part of the bird.

The great thing about dark meat is that it has a very richer flavor. Its juicy, tender, and doesn’t require a ton of extra seasonings such as butter and cooking oil to make it taste good.

And just like the chicken breast, dark meat is a really great source of protein that leaves you feeling fuller for a longer period of time.

Dark meat also contains more myoglobin than white meat. Myoglobin gives the meat more iron and zinc, two minerals that are known for their immune boosting powers.

When it comes to portion control thighs are a lot better due to their smaller size. They are also a lot cheaper than chicken breasts which means you can save money while still shrinking your waistline.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is not only satisfying, but it can also help you curb those annoying cravings and reduce your stress levels.

Anytime you are stressed your body will release the stress hormone known as cortisol. This often leads to an increase in appetite and a bout of emotional eating.

The benefits associated with dark chocolate are directly related to the amount of cocoa flavonoids it contains.

According to multiple studies cocoa flavonoids can lower blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels and your blood pressure.

For best results avoid the chocolate bars found at your local convenience store as they tend to be loaded with additional fats and sugars.

You should instead opt for a chocolate bar that has a simple ingredient list and a minimum of 70% cacao.

Enjoy chocolate in moderation as consuming too much could end up working against you.

Red Wine

Technically speaking red wine does not help with weight loss. After all it does contain 7 calories per gram.

It will however help you relax after a long, stressful day at work.

Red wine has also been shown to be beneficial when it comes to your overall health.

A study done by Washington State University found that polyphenols, which are found in red wine, can give your metabolism a boost and help prevent obesity.

While whole grapes contain the largest amount of polyphenols, the amount in red wine is enough to have a positive impact on your health.

As with all things, alcohol should be enjoyed responsibly and in moderation.

Never drink on an empty stomach and avoid brands that are loaded with sugars and carbs.

Add these 4 foods to your weekly meal plan and you will forget you are even on a diet.
