You’ve made the decision to get fit and we applaud you for that. It’s a big decision and one that is guaranteed to improve both your health and your life.
The problem is there is a lot of conflicting information floating around the internet. Some people say you should count calories while others swear by IIFYM (if it fits your macros).
With so much information to filter through it can seem overwhelming and make you want to quit before you even get started.
But don’t give up!
Getting in shape is not as complicated as you have been led to believe.
Now before we dive in and share the 4 things you must do to get in great shape, let’s discuss something that we consider very important.
One of the main reason people give up on their health and fitness goals is because they expect results to happen overnight.
You didn’t gain the weight overnight so you shouldn’t expect to lose it overnight.
Getting in great shape is a process that could take several months. And in order to get the results you want you must be in it for the long haul.
With that being said here are the 4 things you must do to get in great shape.
Learn The Basics
When you are first starting your journey you are bound to have a ton of questions. Things like what should you eat before you workout, how long should you workout, and how much cardio should you do are all questions that you will be asking yourself on a daily basis.
Before you start your fitness plan take a little time to learn the basics. Blogs such as MyFitnessPal, Beachbody on Demand, Daily Burn and the blog you are currently on can help you get your fitness journey off to a great start.
To lose weight you have to start moving more.
The great thing about exercise is it can be done in a million different ways. You can run, dance, ride your bike, lift weights, kickbox and a host of other things.
The key is to simply get moving….
For best results pick an exercise that you will enjoy doing. This way you will be more likely to stick with it.
The good news is there is no shortage of options. You can even look up full workouts on YouTube.
So even if you don’t want to invest in a gym membership, as long as you have access to the internet you can still get in a great workout.
Start Eating Right
It’s not enough to just start working out. Because truth be told, you could spend hours working out and still not get any results if your diet is out of whack.
Without the proper fuel your body will never change…..
Before you workout make sure you fuel your body with the proper nutrients. You should also refuel after you workout.
Doing so will ensure your body is able to quickly recover after an intense workout.
When we say you should start eating right that doesn’t mean you need to give up all your favorite foods and start eating chicken and broccoli everyday.
At Diet Breakthroughs we don’t believe you should deprive yourself in order to lose weight. Instead we recommend learning how to eat the right portions.
There are a ton of really delicious and healthy meals that you can enjoy while on this journey to a better you.
If you feel a bit overwhelmed and don’t know how to start eating right, just start by cutting out one soda a day.
It may not sound like much but eliminating those empty calories from your diet can really add up on the scale.
Find a Way To Hold Yourself Accountable
You want results? Well it all starts with holding yourself accountable…
It’s easy to say you’re going to start working out everyday for the next 12 weeks. It’s a completely different thing to actually do it.
That’s where accountability comes in.
And the truth is, most us don’t do a good job of holding ourselves accountable. That’s why we recommend finding someone to be your accountability partner.
This can be a friend, family member or anyone that you know will have the courage to hold you accountable.
If there is no one in your immediate circle that can be your accountability partner, get online and see if you can find one that way.
There are plenty of websites designed to help people find someone to workout with. Once you find your accountability partner you are well on your way to reaching your health and fitness goals.
As you can see, getting in shape is not as difficult or complicated as some would have you to believe.
When you combine fitness, nutrition and accountability you have yourself a recipe for success!
