Drink More Water

According to a study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, drinking more water has the ability to help a healthy person increase the rate at which they burn calories.

Drinking roughly two tall glasses of water per day can potentially increase your metabolic rate by up to 30 percent.

Want an easy way to lose five pounds? Start drinking 6 cups of water a day and you may be able to burn an additional 17,400 calories in a year.

Do Interval Training

You can’t do the same workout over and over and expect to get great results. At some point you are going to have to kick things up a notch.

That is where interval training comes into play.

When it comes to shedding those unwanted pounds interval training is in a league of its own. Not only does it give your metabolism a big boost, but it also improves insulin sensitivity, and improves your overall cholesterol profile.

If you have a gym membership you can sign up for one of the HIIT classes they offer. If you don’t have a gym membership you can create your own HIIT workout.

Here’s how to do it. Let’s say you enjoy walking 30 minutes everyday. Now, instead of walking the same pace for the entire 30 minutes you will break it up by adding in 30 to 60 second intervals.

You will alternate between periods of intense speed and periods of rest. Please note when we say intense speed we are referring to a speed that is a bit challenging for you.

However, it should not be so challenging that you put yourself at risk of injury.

Repeat the intervals up to 10 times. As you get stronger you can increase the amount of time of the periods of intense speed.

Eat Avocados

Many have referred to avocados as butter that grows on trees. The one big difference however is that avocados contain monounsaturated fat instead of the dangerous trans fats that are often found in butter.

Even better is the fact that avocados are loaded with fiber and antioxidants that are known for their ability to kill free radicals.

As you may already know, free radicals are very destructive. They can cause various chain reactions to take place in your body that ultimately lead to a host of health problems.

While all fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that can help neutralize free radicals, none of them are able to get to the mitochondria, which is the place where all the free radicals hang out.

Enter the avocado. Research shows that the monounsaturated-rich oil that comes from the avocado has the ability to strengthen the mitochondria and make it more resilient.

Limit Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol lovers don’t worry. We are not saying you need to cut alcohol completely out of your diet.

Drinking alcohol in moderation is not a problem. Drinking it everyday however is.

Anytime you drink alcohol it slows down the entire metabolic process. This is because alcohol takes precedence over any other foods in your body that are waiting to be digested.

If you do have a drink, try to stick with low calorie options. You should also limit yourself to just two drinks.

By eating just one apple everyday you can prevent metabolic syndrome, which is often associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and excess abdominal fat.

The great thing about apples is not only are they delicious, but they are low in calories and a great source of fiber.

Studies have shown that fiber plays a huge role in reducing visceral fat.

A study done by the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center found that for every 10 gram increase of soluble fiber you consume on a daily basis, you can reduce the amount of visceral fat you accumulate by up to 3.7 percent over the course of 5 years.

That may not sound like much. But when you consider all you are doing is eating an apple a day to get these results, you see just how amazing those results are.

Just imagine if you incorporated some sort of physical activity into your daily life. Putting on just 5 pounds of muscle and sustaining it will increase your resting metabolic rate and help you burn an extra three pounds over the course of a year.
