When most people start a new fitness program they are super excited.

They vow that this will be the time they finally achieve their weight loss goals.

And while all of your health and fitness goals are indeed achievable, most people unknowingly set themselves up for failure.

How is this you ask?

By setting unrealistic expectations!

Having unrealistic expectations is without a doubt the number one reason people fail to lose weight.

Its wonderful to be excited and its great to set big goals.

But you also have to be realistic with yourself.

If you have 100 pounds to lose you can’t expect for it to all be gone in the next 30 days.

That’s not going to happen…Unless of course you do something that is extremely unhealthy and dangerous.

Which we hope you would never do that.

According to most experts you should aim to lose no more than 2 pounds a week.

However, when you first get started you will more than likely lose more than that.

Especially if you have a lot of weight to lose.

This is perfectly normal but it won’t last forever.

At some point things will slow down and you will start to lose an average of 2 pounds per week.

That’s why its vital you don’t set unrealistic expectations.

Yes you should set a big goal.

But your timeline has to reflect that goal.

Your focus should be more long term.

Don’t focus only on losing the weight, but also focus on keeping the weight off for the rest of your life.

Small Changes Equal Big Results

The great thing about losing weight is that it is not as difficult as some would have you to believe.

As long as you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight.

So at a very basic level, weight loss is nothing more than a numbers game.

In order to burn more calories than you consume you must create a calorie deficit.

This can be done by making a few small changes to your current lifestyle.

For example, if you are a big soda drinker, start cutting back on the number of sodas you drink on a daily basis.

This alone could save you hundreds of calories a week.

You should also start drinking more water.

Water has a ton of benefits, one being its ability to help you lose weight.

Water helps flush toxins out of your body and it fills you up which prevents overeating

And since water has zero calories you never have to worry about it ruining your diet.

We recommend you drink at least a gallon of water everyday.

If you need to spice it up consider adding a little flavor to your water.

This way it won’t be so difficult to drink an entire gallon.

You should also start working out on a regular basis.

Start by doing a brisk 20 minute walk 3-4 times a week.

It might not seem like much, but those 20 minutes will do wonders for your waistline and your overall health.

As you get stronger you can work your way up to 30 minutes.

Here’s a great beginner walking program you can start following today!

Always remember a little effort goes a long ways.

So don’t feel discouraged if you can only walk 5 to 10 minutes the first time out.

Be proud of yourself and focus on getting better each day.

Avoid The Cold Turkey Approach

When trying to lose weight you should never take the cold turkey approach.

In 99% of cases it doesn’t work.

When you try to cut out an entire food group overnight it will almost always end in failure.

Instead of trying to cut out absolutely everything that you feel is bad, just focus on making small changes to your lifestyle and your diet.

Here are a few small changes that add up to amazing results.

Beware of Crazy Fad Diets

Fad diets are every where.

And the problem is none of them work. At least not in the long term.

Most fad diets require you do two things that are unsustainable.

First they require you severely restrict your calories, and secondly they require you to cut out entire food groups.

Both of which can cause your metabolism to slow down and your body to store fat.

So while you may lose weight initially, as soon as you resume your regular eating habits you will more than likely gain it all back.

Some people will even gain more weight back.

There is no need to deprive yourself of the foods you love to lose weight.

You can eat great food that tastes delicious and still lose weight.

Here are a few weight loss recipes that will help you reach your health and fitness goals.

While on your journey keep in mind everyone is different and will have different results.

So don’t compare yourself to others.

Just focus on your race and you will reach your goals.
