Crossfitters all over the world have fell in love with the paleo diet.

After all, who wouldn’t love eating all the meat and vegetables they can stand?

What Is The Paleo Diet?

The paleo diet, which is short for paleolithic, is based around the idea of only eating foods that were eaten by early humans.

You will only eat foods that were available during the hunter-gatherer times.

What this basically means is you will only eat foods that have been naturally sourced, have not gone through any processing, and do not contain any additives or preservatives.

If a food has been created chemically it will not be allowed while on the paleo diet.

You’re probably thinking that doesn’t leave you with a lot of options.

But truth be told, this is the exact way we should be eating.

Back in the paleolithic era you didn’t hear about all the diseases you hear about now.

That is a direct result of how humans ate back then.

Modern food is causing us to pack on the pounds and develop all sorts of illnesses.

Could moving back to a diet centered around unprocessed foods be the solution to weight loss, fatigue, and many of the illnesses plaguing us today?

It could be very possible the paleo diet could be just what we need to reclaim our health.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Paleo Diet

You Can Eat Grains

One of the biggest misconceptions about the paleo diet is that you can’t eat grains.

Corn and wheat, both of which are grains, can be traced back over 10,000 years.

That means early humans did indeed eat grains.

The problem with grains didn’t come about until modern agriculture practices started being utilized.

Once fertilizers and pestisides were introduced to the world of farming, things started to get really bad.

Its okay to eat corn and ancient grains while following a paleo diet.

However, bread and other similar grains are not recommended.

You Will Eat a Ton of Vegetables

Yes you will be eating a lot of nuts and meat on this diet, but that’s not the only thing you will be eating.

You will also be eating copious amounts of vegetables.

The foundation of this diet is fruits and vegetables, which of course was a staple in early human diets.

Not getting enough fruits and vegetables in your diet can lead to a lack of energy, as well as internal issues.

Eggs Should Be The First Option For Protein

When it comes to protein eggs are one of the best sources.

While most meats do indeed provide a host of amino acids, back in the day many of them were not available.

Eggs however were available.

And just like most meats, eggs offer a wide range of amino acids.

When it comes to protein, turn to eggs as your first option.

You Will Not Consume Any Dairy or Milk Products

This is probably the hardest part of the diet for most people.

But here’s the deal, back in the paleolithic era, animal agriculture was not available.

Not to mention the fact that milk is no longer essential once you pass the age of 4.

As you grow older its not uncommon for people to lose the ability to create lactose.

Once this happens you will no longer be able to properly digest milk.

For this reason it may not be as difficult as you think to cut out dairy and milk products.

You Will Need To Cut Out Salt

This is the one part of the diet that far too many people ignore.

Salt, as well as most other preservatives, was not a part of the early human diet.

As crazy as it may sound, salt did not become commonly used in the human diet until the time of the Roman Empire.

Please know the salt that naturally occurs in food is not the problem.

Table salt, which is often made in a lab, is the real problem.

Even still, please know this is not a license to eat all the high salt foods you want to eat.

While on the paleo diet you should eliminate all salt.

Salt increases your risk of heart disease and cancer, two of the leading causes of death in the United States.

Excessive salt intake can also lead to a lack of energy and hypertension.

Is The Paleo Diet Right For You?

There is no denying the fact that there are many benefits to the paleo diet.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is right for you.

You have to do your own research and base your decision off of your own personal needs.

Either way, there is no doubt that by restricting the amount of processed foods you eat, your weight loss results will be accelerated.

Your health will also rapidly improve.

We believe the paleo diet is a clean, natural diet that is a great alternative to the unhealthy modern diet of today.
